2019 Female Football Competitions

Friday, February 22, 2019 - 3:33 PM

As the WAFC strives to maintain its commitment to the female football program, we have revised our competition format for the 2019 season.

It is the intention that Female Football – both Junior and Youth have a permanent presence in Friday night football. Following consultation with the Subiaco, West Perth, and Claremont DFDCs, the decision has been made to trial two separate competition playing days for female football for the year 3 – 6 age group in season 2019. Youth football will remain on Friday nights.

Clubs will be given the option to nominate their modified teams into either the Sunday competition or the Friday night competition, depending on their participants preference. At the time of nominating a team, clubs must select which competition they intend to play in. If a club has more than one team, they may nominate one in the Sunday competition and one in the Friday competition if they so desire.

Football Circulars - 2019

Friday, February 8, 2019 - 2:43 PM

As part of your District's commitment to maintaining a strong line of communication with all of our junior clubs, we regularly publish football related circulars on behalf of your DFDC and the WA Football Commission. These circulars contain information crucial to the successful running of your club and in turn, to the successful running of your competition.

This week, several circulars have been published that require your attention.

The Team Nominations form for 2019 is now accessible online via Circular 1. This form not only makes us aware that your team has put it's hand up to be included in our fixture planning but it also enables your team to indicate a preferred grading for 2019.  The deadline for team nominations is the 18th March, 2019.

Special Requests is another form crucial to our season planning. If your club has a Gala Day, boarders' long weekend or any special event, we need to know about these occasions well in advance of the season start date, so we can do our best to accommodate your request.  The deadline for notification of your special event is the 25th March, 2019.

The Volunteer Payments circular provides crucial detail on club payments to its volunteer workforce and how those payments may affect your personal tax liability for the 2018-19 taxation year. Please take the time to read this circular if this is of relevance to you.

We have several overarching policies that have been accepted for implementation throughout the season by your DFDC. These policies cover a range of topics such as our Healthy Clubs policy, bullying, disabilities, racial vilification, discrimination, our respect and responsibility statement and our risk management policy. All clubs are bound by these policies and are valuable tools for the creation of a harmonious environment for your participants.

In 2018 we began implementing the use of the Interchange App for keeping track of player movements through the interchange gates and to keep a  record of total on field time for each individual involved in the game. The use of this app is now compulsory. This circular details that change and to which competitions the change is applicable.

Rise Up Teacher PD Day

Monday, February 4, 2019 - 11:44 AM

The WAFC Metro North Region in partnership with Alkimos Primary School, hosted R.I.S.E. U.P. a professional development day for secondary and primary school teachers on Friday 1st Feb, at Alkimos Primary School.
The event was an opportunity for teachers and education staff to learn from industry professionals about the role of AFL in schools, on how to build mental resilience skills and on the importance of balancing their work/ life environment.

The day kicked off with Andrew O'Brien (WAFC), Graham Mills and Dana Hooker (Fremantle Dockers), and Bradd Dalziell (West Coast Eagles) discussing their programs in schools for the year ahead as well as the opportunities for both students and teachers. Key note speaker Michael Hines from Smiling Minds delivered a session on workplace resilience and mindfulness techniques that had beneficial takeaways for all to integrate into their work environments. To finish the day, Wes Moran (WAFC) took the teachers through a comprehensive overview of the opportunities coaches have in the school environment, coupled with both theory and practical components.

Thank you to all that attended, presenters and of course, Alkimos PS for hosting. The event was a success for it's first run to build upon in the future. The day was full of useful tips, practical information, networking opportunities and a terrific insight into the structures of AFL and AFLW.

Keep your eye out for our next sessions.
