Rise Up Teacher PD Day

Monday, February 4, 2019 - 11:44 AM

The WAFC Metro North Region in partnership with Alkimos Primary School, hosted R.I.S.E. U.P. a professional development day for secondary and primary school teachers on Friday 1st Feb, at Alkimos Primary School.
The event was an opportunity for teachers and education staff to learn from industry professionals about the role of AFL in schools, on how to build mental resilience skills and on the importance of balancing their work/ life environment.

The day kicked off with Andrew O'Brien (WAFC), Graham Mills and Dana Hooker (Fremantle Dockers), and Bradd Dalziell (West Coast Eagles) discussing their programs in schools for the year ahead as well as the opportunities for both students and teachers. Key note speaker Michael Hines from Smiling Minds delivered a session on workplace resilience and mindfulness techniques that had beneficial takeaways for all to integrate into their work environments. To finish the day, Wes Moran (WAFC) took the teachers through a comprehensive overview of the opportunities coaches have in the school environment, coupled with both theory and practical components.

Thank you to all that attended, presenters and of course, Alkimos PS for hosting. The event was a success for it's first run to build upon in the future. The day was full of useful tips, practical information, networking opportunities and a terrific insight into the structures of AFL and AFLW.

Keep your eye out for our next sessions.
